ARTEMIS carries out its activities through seven Work Packages (WPs), which coordinate the work of the eight partner universities: from the management of the Alliance to education, research and innovation, as well as regional engagement and the communication of results.
The University of Perugia contributes to all seven WPs, bringing together the expertise and activities of academic staff, researchers, professional and administrative staff, students and PhD candidates. The sections below describe the scope of each Work Package and UniPG’s contribution.
WP1 – Management and Governance
Professor Diana Salciarini
ARTEMIS Institutional Coordinator at UniPG and UniPG Representative for WP1 – Management and Governance
Diana Salciarini is Associate Professor of Geotechnical Engineering at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of the University of Perugia and the Rector’s Delegate for International Relations and Cooperation. Her research interests include landslide hazard assessment, soil–structure interaction and geothermal foundations.
Within ARTEMIS, she acts as the institutional liaison between UniPG and the Alliance’s governance bodies. She gathers and validates information from the University’s different Work Packages and represents UniPG in the Alliance’s coordination processes and joint activities.
As UniPG Representative for WP1, she contributes to project management and governance, quality monitoring, audit processes and the alignment of activities with the project’s objectives and agreements. Her role connects the Alliance’s strategic decisions with the structures and activities of the University of Perugia.
WP2 – ARTEMIS Inter-University Campus
Professor Giuseppe Liotta
UniPG Representative for WP2 – ARTEMIS Inter-University Campus
Giuseppe Liotta is Full Professor of Computer Science at the Department of Engineering of the University of Perugia. His research focuses on graph algorithms, algorithm engineering, graph drawing and data visualisation.
Within ARTEMIS, he represents UniPG in WP2, which is responsible for developing the Alliance’s inter-university campus. He contributes to cooperation between UniPG and the partner universities in the development of shared digital services, tools and opportunities for their academic communities.
WP2 works to connect the universities’ digital systems, support an inclusive, sustainable and multicultural campus, and develop the ARTEMIS Campus Ambassador Network. It also contributes to the technical publication, accessibility, structure and performance of the Alliance’s digital content.
WP3 – Education and Training
Professor Lorena Urbanelli
UniPG Representative for WP3 – Education and Training
Lorena Urbanelli is Associate Professor of Biochemistry at the Department of Chemistry, Biology and Biotechnology of the University of Perugia. Her teaching and research focus on biochemistry and molecular and cellular biology, with particular attention to extracellular vesicles and the biomolecular mechanisms involved in physiological and pathological processes.
Within ARTEMIS, she represents UniPG in WP3, which is responsible for developing education and academic cooperation across the Alliance. She contributes to cooperation between UniPG and the partner universities in designing joint educational activities and new opportunities for students, PhD candidates and university staff.
WP3 develops joint staff training programmes, integrated mobility pathways, shared bachelor’s and master’s programmes, doctoral schools and micro-credentials. It also promotes innovative teaching and learning methods and greater integration between the educational pathways of the eight partner universities.
WP4 – Research Pathways
Professor Paolo Belardi
UniPG Representative for WP4 – Research Pathways
Paolo Belardi is Full Professor of Architectural and Urban Design at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of the University of Perugia. His teaching and research focus on architectural and urban design, architectural drawing and representation, exhibition design, and the regeneration of urban spaces and the built heritage.
Within ARTEMIS, he represents UniPG in WP4, which is responsible for developing scientific cooperation across the Alliance. He contributes to connecting UniPG research groups with the ARTEMIS research networks and supports the involvement of academic staff, researchers and PhD candidates in interdisciplinary pathways and joint activities.
WP4 develops the ARTEMIS Research Roadmap, Research Repository, researcher mobility initiatives and the three Research Centres dedicated to Transport and Technology, Health and Environment, and Migration and Human Rights. It also promotes joint projects, scientific meetings, Pinnacle Summits and activities for early-career researchers.

WP5 – Sustainable Innovation and Knowledge Transfer
Professor Filippo De Angelis
UniPG Representative for WP5 – Innovation & Entrepreneurship
Filippo De Angelis is Full Professor of General and Inorganic Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry, Biology and Biotechnology of the University of Perugia and Rector’s Deputy for Technology Transfer and Innovation. His research focuses on theoretical and computational chemistry, innovative materials and energy technologies, with particular attention to next-generation photovoltaic systems.
Within ARTEMIS, he represents UniPG in WP5, dedicated to innovation, entrepreneurship and strengthening the connections between universities, territories and productive ecosystems. He contributes to the development of initiatives linking research, technology transfer and innovation, fostering collaboration between the academic community and socioeconomic stakeholders.
WP5 promotes a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship across the Alliance by developing joint activities, pathways and tools for students, researchers and stakeholders. Particular attention is given to research valorisation, collaboration with businesses and territories, and the development of a European innovation ecosystem.

Professor Daniele Parbuono
UniPG Representative for WP6 – Societal Engagement for Regional Transition
Daniele Parbuono is Associate Professor of Cultural Anthropology at the Department of Philosophy, Social Sciences and Education of the University of Perugia. He also serves as Deputy Rector for the Student Community, Peace Policies, Institutional Networks, and Organisation and Coordination of the Rector’s Staff, as well as Delegate for Services for Students with Disabilities and Specific Learning Disorders.
Within ARTEMIS, he represents UniPG in WP6, dedicated to engaging communities and local stakeholders in regional transition processes. He coordinates the activities developed by the University through a participatory approach, fostering dialogue between universities, institutions, businesses, associations and citizens.
WP6 develops Living Labs and co-creation sessions addressing mobility, accessibility, equity and sustainability, with the aim of identifying territorial needs and developing shared solutions. These activities strengthen the relationship between the ARTEMIS Alliance and its territories, turning them into spaces for dialogue, experimentation and participation.

Professor Marco Mazzoni
UniPG Representative for WP7 – Dissemination, Communication and Sustainability
Marco Mazzoni is Full Professor of Sociology of Cultural and Communication Processes at the Department of Political Sciences of the University of Perugia and Deputy Rector for Campus Policies and University Communication. His research focuses on the sociology of communication, journalism, media, political communication, public relations and processes of public opinion formation.
Within ARTEMIS, he represents UniPG in WP7, dedicated to the dissemination, communication and sustainability of the Alliance. He contributes to the development of communication strategies and to coordination across the different Work Packages, supporting the dissemination of ARTEMIS activities, opportunities and results within the university community and among external stakeholders.
WP7 develops shared tools and strategies to strengthen the identity and visibility of ARTEMIS, coordinate communication among partner universities and enhance the dissemination of the Alliance’s activities, results and impact. Particular attention is given to the circulation of information, engagement with different audiences, and the long-term sustainability and recognition of ARTEMIS.
